As well as one of the town's architectural symbols, the Quintín mill, the surrounding area contains the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park, a space where a great many species of migratory birds come to nest. It is well worth sampling the local gastronomy, with exquisite fish and shellfish, and outstanding dishes such as salt-roast sea bream and king prawns. There are two noteworthy events held in summer: the fiesta of La Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors, on 16 July; the National Folk Festival, in the third week of this same month.
